Going after your dreams!

Have you ever dreamt about saying “I just completed my first novel and sent it off to my publisher!” Well, I just did yesterday. And so can you!

I wanted to share this with you, not only because this is the biggest project I have worked on and completed and I wanted to toot my horn a little, but also because I hope it inspires some of you out there to go after your dreams.

If you had told me 3 years ago that I would be writing a novel for a client at Disney, I would have told you that you must be crazy. 3 years ago I had made the transition to work as a Screenwriter and Director in Commercials and Film after a career in Photojournalism and I was just starting out, not even sure yet if I was going to be successful at it. I was just happy and pinching myself for being so lucky to be working in the Film Industry again after I had left it 7 years earlier.

I had left the Film Industry because in my previous line of work as an actor I had not been very successful. It took me leaving it all together to figure out that I needed to get behind the camera as a Director and Writer. Regardless, 3 years ago I was very far from my dream to write and direct fantasy and sci-fi content for the big studios, let alone write a novel. I had just barley finished my first feature screenplay.

But I let life unfold, and when I was given the opportunity to interview for this job to write and help develop this amazing Sci-Fi novel, I did not shy away form it, because I did not feel I had enough experience. No, I chose to walk in with a can-do attitude. It landed me the job and a year later I have written a 600 page novel.

I still have a lot to accomplish on my list of dreams, like writing the screenplay for a Marvel film and directing ElfQuest. But I feel good about being on the right track!

And so can you if you just go for it!

I like to end with a Quote by the amazing Steve Jobs, which I read every time I loose courage:

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
― Steve Jobs

Wishing you all a fulfilled and successful 2016! Let’s all make this a year to make dreams come true!

PS: Before you ask, it will be about 2 years before the book is released, because the eBook will also include animation.
